Implicit Association Test (Exercise)

  • You will need: pen and paper
  • Estimated time: 20 minutes

Task description

To really deepen your understanding of implicit bias, we recommend you to take the Implicit Associations Test that was developed at Harvard University by researchers of the Project Implicit. The IAT measures the strength of associations between concepts (e.g., black people, gay people) and evaluations (e.g., good, bad) or stereotypes (e.g., athletic, clumsy).

Follow the link to the webpage of Project Implicit: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html

After completing the test and seeing your results, write down your thoughts and answers to the following questions:

What do you think,

  • What signs could you detect in your own behaviour regarding your results in the test?
  • In what situations do/could you catch your own implicit prejudices?
  • What do you think, how do your own prejudices influence your professional work?
  • How are/could you be aware of your own implicit prejudices?
